The thing that grabbed my imagination was how powerfully he (Leon Hammer) synthesizes the allopathic medical view, which in my opinion is very constricted oriented as it is to diagnosing and curing a symptom, with his deep psychiatric experience and Five Elements knowledge. We are holographic, and there are so many ways into understanding ourselves and others. I lean toward a metaphorical take on symptoms, and am very interested in how language and color can be used as needles. We express our imbalances in such fascinating ways. He really taps into that in this book.
From Amazon’s description:
Behind the acupuncture, herbal remedies and sophisticated diagnostics of Chinese medicine lies a “congenial system of healing that embodies unification of body and mind, spirit and matter, nature and man, philosophy and reality.” In this comprehensive and ground-breaking presentation, based on long experience as physician, psychiatrist, and practitioner of Chinese medicine, Leon Hammer offers a new model for appreciating the traditional healer’s effective and profound respect for individual integrity and energetic balance. Explaining, and moving beyond, the five phase (element) system, he shows that this Eastern practice is as much a spiritual science as a physical one. Accessible to the layman, yet a resource for the professional in any healing art, this book examines the natural energy functions of the human organism as a key to mental, emotional and spiritual health. It offers new insight into disease, showing how it is not merely an invasion from the outside, but rather a byproduct of a person’s unsuccessful attempt to restore one’s own balance.

Recommended by Brian Mininger of Bear Creek Outdoor Living, the author’s husband.
Brian writes: “I have had a front row seat to the journey and practical steps that Victoria has taken to rise up from debilitating depression to leading our company. In this book she shares the story and the practical steps while challenging the reader to fight for themselves.”
From Google Books:
In Daring To Fight, Victoria Mininger shares her painful battle with clinical depression and lays out practical steps for how she fought her way from dark days of lying on the couch to re-engaging in life again.Shame tells those struggling with depression and anxiety they are not good enough. It tells them there is something fundamentally wrong. Well-meaning friends may even whisper that a lack of faith is the cause of these deep-rooted issues–adding another layer to the shame storm for believers. They are pointed to the Bible, left to memorize verses, pray more, and go to church more without any practical guidance for how to tie God’s Word to the day-to-day obstacles that come with these struggles.
In this eight-week guidebook, Victoria outlines what it takes to battle depression head-on with grit, grace, and faith from a strong foundation in God’s Word to intentional daily rhythms. So much more than a band-aid for the heart, Daring to Fight shows those struggling with depression and anxiety how to stand on their own two feet and once again fight for their healing and health.

This is a book from my reference bookshelf. It is a description of how buried emotions don’t just go away, but in fact can fester and cause dis-ease. It has a section that lists parts of the body in which illness manifests, and the underlying emotions that are causing that illness. This book is required reading.
From Amazon’s description:
Karol Truman provides a comprehensive and enlightening resource for getting in touch with unresolved feelings which, she explains, can distort not only happiness but also health and well-being. Leaving no emotion unnamed, and in fact listing around 750 labels for feelings, Truman helps identify problem areas, and offers a “script” to help process the feelings, replacing the negative feeling with a new, positive outlook. A chapter on the possible emotions below the surface in various physical ailments gives the reader plenty to work with on a deep healing level. FEELINGS BURIED ALIVE NEVER DIE combines a supportive, common-sense, results-oriented approach to a problem that is widespread and that can stop people from living fully.
Think about this from an energetic point of view. Let’s imagine, that everything you own is something that brings you joy. Everything you own increases your energy, your emotions, your well-being. What would your life be like?
Interestingly enough, and especially in western culture of having lots of “things,” a lot of the things we have do NOT bring us joy. A lot of our possessions actually drag us down – they consume our energy. But we’re so wrapped up in scarcity mindset that we can’t “release” things. I say “release” because the word has a better energy than “get rid of” or “trash.”
Marie Kondō’s book provides a method for going through your “things” and releasing the things that are not serving you. As a result, you will have a household containing only things that bring you joy. Wow. It’s a liberating experience!
Don’t just buy this book. Follow the method. Do the work. Liberate yourself! You’ll feel the difference, even before you’ve completed the work.
